Surprise! It's Dr. Murphy!
👯 April 13, 2010
Well, well. What a show it was last weekend, and if you didn’t hear it live, you will never never never hear it, ever. I hope. For those who tuned in live, I will send you cookies or coins to keep it quiet. For those of you who are waiting for the archive for #3, well, well. Maybe I’ll put up a flavor of it, which I did manage to record, but that will take a little while.
Basically, it was a series of events that culminated last Saturday afternoon into a sheer round of terror, misery, sweating, cursing, thumping, phone ringing, glass dropping, and of course, the Echo. It was an epic fail, including my failure to have Keyboard Cat play us off.
We found out, for instance, that you have to have a paid-for subscription with Skype if you want to make a phone call out. It’s fun to discover this sort of thing on the air, live, and then to try to worm over to where your credit card might be so you can read off the numbers without losing your headphones in the process. Did you know it takes a half-hour for the Skype payment to go through the system?
That’s a half-hour of on-air-live-time, and trying to fill that half-hour with happy patois is challenging, even without an echo. Hearing your own stupid voice saying stupid things twice (twice twice twice) is just so much fun, I can’t tell you.
So, eventually, we did get Skype to work and when we called Al, our first guest, he was out walking the dogs and had to race (race race race) to the phone to answer it. He was too out of breath to speak at first, which was a blessing, because when he started to talk … the echo actually doubled and now we had stereo angst and quadrupal agita.
Of course, my pride was totally demolished in the first few minutes, never to be recovered. I used to have pride. Didn’t really need it, anyway.
Bill was beside himself, which was good because there was an ECHO ECHO. It was bad, I tell you. Bad.
Are we going to try again next week? You betcha!

Hey the show is pretty good, I like the insider stuff etc.
One thing…I do like the back and forth, and I mean this in the nicest way…but Nancy please stop talking over other people.
There were a couple times when Bill or a guest was saying something I wanted to hear but Nancy jumped in and re-directed the conversation and the thought never got finished and the topic was never returned to.
Otherwise…keep it up!

I hear you, Foo, and I agree totally. That’s something I intend to stop doing, as far as I am able. This sort of thing always drives me crazy when I hear it on other shows, and I will mend my wicked ways. Promise.
And, thanks for listening!!
